Yoga includes asana (the poses), which not only fortify the body, but can also help to cultivate mindfulness that can be carried off the mat. Yoga is a practice of self-study, and it’s meaning can be translated as “union” or “to join”. Yoga truly allows us to engage and listen from our outer to our deepest layers, and under the right conditions, we can bring our mind and body back to a state of ease and equilibrium, revealing its wise and authentic self. Through the practice of yoga asana, we have the opportunity to practice equanimity, resolve tension and obstacles, experience strength with receptivity. With conscious movement within the bone and muscular structure, we utilize our breath and universal life force, prana, to wholly engage in the present moment. Yoga helps to replenish, heal, and sustain; bringing balance to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual layers in order for us to relate more harmoniously to the nature of our environment and life’s day to day experiences, affording us a mindful connection to self and others.
